A beautiful and substantial starburst pendant?from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of sterling silver, the pendant forms a large 8-point star decorated with a variety of stones. The surface?of the piece?is hand-etched with a flowing scrolled motif, which adds beautiful depth and texture.?A faceted citrine is bezel set at the center of the star, which is rich and lively in color. A pattern of alternating granite and foil-backed paste stones?surround the center stone, decorating each point of the star. The closed-backed stones are faceted and appear?pale gold and champagne in color, thanks to their original foil backings. They are perfectly complimented by the light rusty red and charcoal grey colors of the granite stones. Originally an antique pin, the clasp has been removed and replaced with a fluted sterling bail at the top, perfect for hanging from a favorite Victorian chain.?A very attractive and unusual statement?piece, it would make a special?addition to any collection!
Measurements: The?pendant hangs 2 3/4" long, measures 2 1/4" in diameter, and is 3/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant?is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent?damage to the sterling setting or hand etched detail. All of the granite, paste, and citrine stones are intact and securely set. The bail is secure and in good condition. The back of the piece shows some variation in texture where the pin clasp was removed, which is not visible when worn. A subtle natural patina on the surface gives the silver an antiqued appearance, adding depth to the design.
